Loehmann's inventory of fall clothing hit the Back Room yesterday, including an exclusive Theory "sample sale" and the mother load of designer outerwear.
The Theory "sample sale" is the first thing you'll find when you reach the top of the escalator. It consists of about 5 racks of fall merchandise, with prices ranging from $45 for knit tops to $300 for leather and outerwear. Yes, you heard right—Theory leather jackets for $300. While we doubt that these pieces are true samples, the prices are worthy of the term. (Note: these prices only apply to the goods in this area; Theory merch elsewhere is priced as marked.)
The rest of the floor is loaded with leather and wool gems: Fuzzy Missoni sweater-coats for $499.99, Grey Helmut Lang wool jackets for $299.99, heavy-duty full-length Dolce & Gabbana wool coats for $499.99, and cropped Gryphon trenches for $199.99. We even spied a killer black Love Moschino leather jacket for $669.99 (but only one, in a size 6).
If you're not in the market for a new coat or jacket, don't worry. There's plenty more great stock. In the back corner, there are three wall racks devoted to Cacharel, with dresses for $250, silk tops for $160, and cropped sweater tops for $200. If you've been dreaming of leather shirts or pants, look out for the Theory black leather tee shirts for $350 and pants for $400. There's also a lone rack of Vince silk tops for $190—not as good of a deal as the other merchandise, but probably the most solid wardrobe staples.
Other designers with miscellaneous offerings include: Rag & Bone (clothes and shoes), Joie, RED Valentino, Rachel Zoe, Philosophy, Marc Jacobs (handbags), and Toms (shoes).
Although it might not be as glamorous as the Barneys Warehouse Sale, prices are in the same realm and the pickings feel fresh (not too many damages—at least not yet). Plus, if you have a Loehmann's club card (or pay the $25 to get one), you can save up to an additional 20%.—Mallory Farrugia
