The gingham shirt may be overplayed in the Bay Area, but don't expect that trend to die any time soon. According to social commerce community Polyvore, "gingham shirt" was one of the most frequently-searched fashion terms in San Francisco this year. CNBC reports that the city's other popular terms include tulle skirt, flare jean, fur vest, nude wedges, jelly sandals, coral dress, flower crown, Jeffrey Campbell wedges, and wide-brim hats.
After analyzing those terms, Polyvore staffers decided that SF's fashion personality should be called "Modern Hippie"— a generous description given that gingham shirt and jelly sandals were on the list. Yes, this is embarrassing, but let's remember that these were the most searched-for items, not necessarily the most-purchased. Maybe the kids on Polyvore were just doing research for a school paper?
