Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Since Sunday is World AIDS Day, we suggest you skip traditional church and head to Golden Gate Park to worship with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. Your deities will be fashion and DIY, with The Sisters taking to the catwalk (underneath a heated tent, bien sur) as part of Project Nunway IV.
The hedonistic ladies of the cloth will eschew the trad habit for looks they created in partnership with professional designers using only recycled materials—and based on a theme, of course. This year it's "Flora." Nunway creator Sister Barbra Ganesh says the green theme is "a testimony to Queer resilience and fitting for the Golden Gate Park venue."
Jane Wiedlin of the Go-Gos (YES), will be one of the judges, and 2012 Pride Grand Marshall Sister Roma will co-host. Other judges include Nayland Blake and Gabby Lala, activist Tita Aida, NAMES Project creator Cleve Jones, and Kari Byron from Discovery Channel's Mythbusters. Tickets are $20.12 in advance, $51.50 for VIP seating, and $99.99 for Diva seating. Funds will benefit the AIDS Memorial Grove and the Sisters' general fund.
The fun is happening on Sunday, December 2, 2012 from 3 to 7pm at the National AIDS Memorial Grove, corner of Bowling Green Drive and Nancy Pelosi Drive. Buy tickets here!
