Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The Hayes Valley Aether SF threw an opening bash pizza party last night, and the store officially opens today. The three-shipping-container-high shop is a sight to behold, as you can see from our gallery. Though it's not exactly "giant," as we described it yesterday: It's tall, but very narrow, you know, like a shipping container.

The middle level cantilevers over the front, creating protection from the elements at the entrance (which was handy last night). Colorful graffiti creates a fun backdrop to the stark structure. And inside, the robotic conveyor system, which delivers clothing directly to customer on the lower levels from the third story, is impressive as well as entertaining and a welcome distraction for children who are over the whole shopping thing. Hey, the outdoorsy clothes look pretty good too!
