A Couple in Union Square Exudes Whale-Worthy Style

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Here at Racked, we're dedicating this week to the kind of fantastical shopping that most of us only get to experience in dreams (or at 80%-off sample sales). Taking a page from casino parlance, we'll be talking a lot about "whales," those big spenders who feel perfectly comfortable dropping tens of thousands of dollars every night on roulette, or, in our case, on Cartier. Welcome to Whale Week 2013.

This dapper couple is Marcia Brashier and her husband Jim Brashier, who both work as real estate brokers in San Francisco. We caught them after Marcia had made out quite well at Tory Burch. She also happened to be wearing head-to-toe Tory Burch. She describes her style as "au current yet classically conservative." What's in the bag? "A beautiful dress in a cashmere wool blend with a camel-colored top, black bottom, and black beading on top. It's a great day to night piece. I also purchased a sweater and skirt."

Jim is wearing a Charles Tyrwhitt suit, "a Scottish sweater and British shirt," and Ralph Lauren sunnies. Three cheers for their excellent style. They'd fit right in at a table with any number of whales in these ensembles.
