Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
The days of trekking across the Golden Gate Bridge to sweat it out at SoulCycle are numbered. After months of waiting and obsessive Internet stalking, we discovered that SoulCycle quietly added its Cow Hollow location to the site last week. And the news just gets better: Classes in the new location at 2095 Union Street will start on Saturday, November 16. That means that you can sign up today starting at noon.
The size and scale of the new studio will be comparable to the Marin Country Mart location. The Union Street location will have 54 bikes, full-service locker rooms, showers, a listening bar and a boutique stocked with the skull-and-wheel emblazoned shwag which is destined to become the new Marina uniform. If you're already a SoulCycle regular, you'll see familiar instructors in Cow Hollow as well: Ian, Jenny, Allie, Chris, Lindy, Lauren, Bea, and Kirk will be commuting between Marin and SF to lead rides at both studios. The only thing that's missing from the SF studio is the abundance of free parking. (Sad face.)
For the uninitiated, let's review the bike-booking process. First, you'll need to set up an account on the SoulCycle website. Then, you purchase a Soul Series, which is a package of one to 50 classes. First-time riders can try SoulCycle for $20. (Just set up the account online, and then call the studio at 415-695-7685 to get the discounted deal.) Once you add a series, you can book your bike and class time on the website. Reservations for each week's classes go live at noon on Mondays.
After your first ride, a single class is $30. Multi-class series (up to 30 classes) will help you save between $1 and $4 per class. (If you have extra cash to burn, you can pay $70 per class for a 50-class SuperSoul series and receive early booking privileges and full concierge service.)
If the SoulCycle craze captivates San Francisco as it has New York — and with a city full of New York transplants, we suspect it will—the new Cow Hollow studio may become the place to be seen in the city.
