Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
As you may have noticed, it's Travel Week at Racked, and in San Francisco, we're giving a lot of love to locally-based airline Virgin America. We can't help it: They have the best uniforms, which were designed Project Runway-style, their new safety video is the best ever, and they threw a surprise fashion show at 35,000 feet. And, as our final bit of evidence that it's the most stylish airline in the sky, we give you surprise makeovers, gifted to some lucky passengers flying from JFK to LAX back in 2010.
Suze Yalof Schwartz rolled a pushcart of makeup and accessories down the aisle, transforming sweatpant-clad schlubs into presentable humans. If only someone could do that for us on every cross country flight. Can we arrange that please, Virgin America?
