Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
American Express has jumped on the Small Business Saturday (November 30 this year) bandwagon with a new commercial that encourages everyone to look to local boutiques and restaurants when it comes to dropping dollars this holiday season. Normally we'd be mildly interested and feel vaguely positive emotions for the credit card company for supporting local business. But the entire spot just so happens to be filmed in the Bay Area! So we're finding ourselves more enthusiastic than usual about an AmEx ad.
Fellow Barber on Valencia, Manifesto Bikes in Oakland, General Store in the Outer Sunset all make appearances. Check it out for yourself and try not to get excited about some serious brick and mortar shopping in the Bay!
