Since posting a mysterious note on its future storefront in October, Alternative Apparel is now being more forthcoming about its plans in Hayes Valley. The Los Angeles-based, eco-minded casual clothing retailer will open doors at 424 Hayes Street on Sunday, December 8.

To celebrate the new store, the brand is teaming up with Mike Del Ponte, founder of Soma Water to choose a grant recipient for a sustainable design as part of its Alternative Grant Series. Five finalists will be invited to give a presentation at the Alternative Grants event on December 9, and the winner gets a year of classes at TechShop and $1,000 cash.

And of course there will be a party—it's on December 11 at 7pm at the store with DJ Primo and cocktails by Olmeca Altos tequila and Angel's Envy bourbon. Everyone's invited!
