News broke on Friday that Katie Couric is joining the news team at Yahoo! News as the website's "global anchor," in a bit of a coup for CEO, Marissa Mayer. We can't help imagining Couric on our local red carpets, alongside Mayer and the local Getty and Traina socialite circle. Having a cocktail at The Battery, perhaps.

It's possible Couric won't show her face in these parts all that much, since she'll continue to host her ABC daytime talk show, "Katie," which was renewed for a second season at the beginning of this year. Does that mean she'll have to work for Yahoo! remotely? Alas, Mayer is quite against the work-remotely model. In February, she sent out a memo banning working from home. Looks like the Bay Area style scene will be getting a dose of Manhattan after all. Or will Mayer bend her rules for Couric? Time will tell!
