Blockbuster Closings

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Blockbuster will close its remaining Bay Area locations in Redwood City, Concord and San Pablo. After going bankrupt in 2010, the brand shut most of its 3,500 stores. Only about 300 remained across the country, and now they will also close their doors by early 2014. The company is owned by Dish Network, which will now focus on its on-demand video service.
