In similar fashion to Apple and Levi's, the Salvatore Ferragamo store in Union Square is moving two blocks from its current 233 Geary St. address to 236 Post St. The Chronicle remembers the opening of the Geary store in 2000 that included a Tony Bennett benefit concert and a fully tented Union Square. This opening (more of a relocation) appears to be low-key with the Geary store continuing to sell the fine, Italian leather goods until the Post store opens its doors in two weeks, on January 8.
The relocation complements Ferragamo's building momentum in the Bay and into the new year. The brand is sponsoring this spring's Mid-Winter Gala at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and, in conjunction, will release two limited-edition handbags, a Hayers mini Sofia for $2,650 and a Hayers Lucite clutch for $1,890. A portion of the proceeds from these bags will benefit the SF museums. Ferragamo suggests that customers pre-order in advance to secure the stock. It's the perfect errand for stepping into the old space to say your goodbyes. Or take your chances and wait until your inaugural visit to the new location.
