Get Crafty With Castle in the Air; Brighten a Sick Kid's Bday

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We've got a lot of do-gooders up in here today, and that's the way we like it. Karima Cammell is releasing her fifth book, Commonplace Birthday, and she's throwing a party all weekend to celebrate. Her beloved Berkeley craft store, Castle in the Air, is hosting free workshops from 12-4pm all weekend where you can create cards, garlands, and crepe paper flowers for kids' birthdays at the Oakland Children's Hospital. All proceeds from the book, which is majorly adorable, also go to sick kids' birthday parties. Drop in anytime between 12 and 4pm at 1805 4th Street in Berkeley on Saturday or Sunday for fun and philanthropy.
