When you arrive for your appointment at the new Vera Wang boutique in San Francisco's Union Square, prepare to shake off the wedding planning insanity. Forget the bridesmaids gifts and the appetizers and the color of the napkins and how your fiance still has not found a spot for the rehearsal dinner. Now's the time to think about what you'll be wearing on one of the most important days of your life. Focus.
It will be easier than you think. Have a seat, take a sip of champagne. Time to talk about you. What's your style? What type of silhouette do you desire? What shade of white looks best with your coloring? Not into white? No worries. Plenty of colorful gowns are available.

Absolutely no clue what you want? You are not alone by any means. And the sales folks at Vera Wang specialize in helping you figure it out. Have a chat, relax. Whether you identify with Julie, Amelia, Delany, or one of the other girls (all the dresses have women's names) will become clear in due time.

Now that they've gotten to know you a little better, it's time to try on some gowns. OH MY GOD THEY'RE ALL SO GORGEOUS. Seriously, we know, it's kind of overwhelming. Not to worry. Go home, have some dinner, perhaps more champagne, Miss Bride-to-Be, decide on those napkin colors. Sleep on it. When you wake up (hopefully sans hangover), if not the next day then perhaps in the next week or so, you'll know.

Another possibile scenario: sticker shock. Vera Wang gowns are hand made in the United States out of amazing fabrics like chantilly lace, organza, silk chiffon—dreamy stuff. Alas, it dreams don't come cheap. Palpitations are understnadable. Take a deep breath; go for a walk, decide on those appetizers. Take your time. They'll wait.
