Bay Area restaurants got an impressive 16 nominations for James Beard awards this year, and one of our favorites, State Bird Provisions, is up for Best New Restaurant. With its dim sum style service and unique dishes including dashi mushrooms & quinoa with toasted 'gomasio' and a sweetbread meatball with fig jam & pickled vegetables, we are not a bit surprised. And the desserts are in a category all their own. This is also not surprising since Nicole Krasinski, the wife half of the married duo who own and operate State Bird, is a master pastry chef.
