Get ready for the laziest instant gratification possible: Yesterday, Google launched same-day shipping in the San Francisco Bay Area. That's right: order from bed in the morning, wear it to dinner that very evening. Didn't think it could get any better? It's completely free for consumers. Bam!
Google Shopping Express is a pilot project involving a handful of retailers including Target, Walgreen's, Staples, American Eagle, Toys"R"Us/Babies"R"Us, Office Depot, Blue Bottle Coffee, Raley's Nob Hill Foods, and Palo Alto Toy & Sport. The retailers pay Google a commission for the service.
The catch is that Google is running a waiting list for people who want to join the pilot program and take advantage of free same-day shipping. And the free delivery is probably temporary—Google is testing things out to see what fee will make sense. If you want in, apply here. Retailers who want in can apply here.
