After opening its first West Coast store in San Francisco in November, MUJI says it will open a second Bay Area location on April 16 in San Jose. Excellent news for anyone who likes to shop for pens, colanders and clothes all at once.

The retail chain seems to be following in the footsteps of Uniqlo, another Japanese retailer (this one has clothing, no colanders) that has declared it will likely open a second San Francisco location before venturing into other cities. Uniqlo opened its first San Francisco store in October last year.

As you can see in the photos, MUJI operatives are hard at work preparing the new 4,590 square-foot space to hold more than 2,000 items for sale, 1,700 of them being household items and 300 being of the wearable variety. On opening day the store will be open from 11am to 8pm; regular hours will be 10:30am to 8:00pm from Monday to Saturday and 11:00am to 6:30pm on Sundays at 170 South Market Street, at the base of the Fairmont Hotel Annex. The first 1,000 customers who buy something get a bag decorated with a map of San Jose in which to carry his or her haul.
