Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
MISSION—It's International Women's Day today, so it seems appropriate that two events on our to-do list for the weekend will focus on female creativity. First up is a gathering outside the Women's Building on Saturday March 9 from 1 to 2pm to honor the women who in 1994 painted the amazing mural that decorates the structure's walls, and who once again scaled the building in 2012 to restore the work of art. Join the festivities at 3543 18th Street—refreshments will be served! [Facebook]
SOMA—Next up is an enormous quilt show at the Concourse Exhibition Center from 10am to 5pm on Saturday March 9 and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday March 10. You'll find an amazing 400 specimens, each proving that quilting is not just for grannies gossiping in a circle (though that sounds like something we'd like in on; also, the above is a quilt, if you can believe it). One special exhibit will show off wearable art, and another is chocolate themed. It's happening at 635 8th Street in San Francisco. [SF Bay Guardian]
