San Franciscans, at least the shoe-obsessed ones, were pretty thrilled to be the location for the very first West Coast Kurt Geiger store, which opened in 2012 in Union Square. Rebecca Farrar-Hockley is creative director for the London shoe brand that happens to the most comfortable stiletto we've ever worn (for real). In honor of Shoe Week, she took a moment to share with us how San Francisco got so lucky—not the least of which is that Londonites and San Franciscans can majorly commiserate about the wardrobe challenges we face thanks to unpredictable weather.
What attracted Kurt Geiger to opening a store in San Francisco?
We saw something in SF Style that made it the destination of choice for our west coast flagship. We certainly haven't looked back as the welcome and response to Kurt Geiger style has been brilliant.
What shoe styles sell best at the Kurt Geiger Union Square store?
The edgy pieces and men's and women's styles that really define London styling from the home of the brand. Not forgetting of course the shared taste in the essential shoe wardrobe staple: boots! Perfect for our equally unpredictable weather conditions.
You had such a great party for Fashion's Night Out, last year. How do you feel about the event being canceled? Will you do anything this year to commemorate fashion week?
There were some great years but whatever comes next will have lots of consideration after the year off so it's no bad thing. We were thrilled with last year and it was special as Stockton Street was our first opening and our first presence at FNO in the U.S. We'll definitely look forward to hosting more events in SF!
Do you have any more SF locations planned?
We are very happy with our location on Union Square so no other boutiques are in planning yet, but we are excited to be available at Nordstrom from August.
Do you have a favorite pair of Kurt Geiger Shoes?
In this self-confessed fashionista's life, it is all, and will always be, about the stiletto. It has to be our statement Kurt Geiger London pin heel!
