I've been searching for the perfect t-shirt my entire adult life. I want it to be like that undershirt my grandfather wore for decades, minus the yellowing from cigar smoke, holes from too many bleachings, and stains from beer drank while smoking. It has to have the perfect V-neck: low but not too low, and it mustn't be clingy—loose-fitting but also not too boxy. It should be 100% cotton and come in a crisp white plus various other colors so I can pair it with absolutely anything. I'll pay more than I'd pay at Target for the perfect t-shirt, but it can't cost more than $40 because I'm going to buy a lot of them. Finally, it should be ethically sourced and made.

I was finally convinced that all this is not asking too much when I found Marine Layer's California-made women's slub v-neck t-shirt for $35. I snapped up several when they had a three-for-$90 sale more than a year ago, and after multiple washings the tees have kept their shape. The best part is they have not pilled. And if you're not a V-neck gal, they have plenty of other styles in that same awesome fabric.
