Today's Editor's Pick comes from Racked SF editor Kristen Philipkoski
Because lips don't contain as much melanin as the rest of our skin, they are extra sensitive to sun. And when our lips are irritated, which happens during sunny, windy summers by the sea, we tend to lick them a lot, which causes even more irritation. Add that all up and you get unattractive, cracked, and peeling lips that do not take well to lipstick or gloss.
Stop this cycle before it starts with Lush's delicious and effective lip scrub. I discovered the Mint Julips flavor while traveling in Hawaii (which is ironic because the British company, which is super environmental and charitable by the way, opened its first American store in SF back in 2003). Just rub the sugar and mint concoction onto your lips—it's a little messy but the bonus is you get a minty-sweet treat. It's breath freshening, and I swear the jolt of mint plumps up my lips, at least temporarily. It also comes in salty-sweet Popcorn flavor (which sounds weird but gets rave reviews), Sweet Lips (chocolate) and Bubble Gum. Follow it up with an SPF lip balm and your lips will stay kissable all summer long.
