After the electronic, throwback, heavy metal and twee rock of Bay Area music festivals this summer, we're totally ready for a good old fashioned jamboree. Perfect timing: Mollusk Surf Shop and FolkYeah! have gotten together to throw the very first Mollusk Big Sur Jamboree on September 27 and 28 among the redwoods on the banks of the Big Sur River at Fernwood Resort.
The acts include Vetiver, Beachwood Sparks, McCombs Skiffle Players, Allah-Las, Sonny and the Sunsets, The Autumn Defense, Little Wings, Neal Casal, Chris Cohen, F.D and the Wizards of the West All Stars, Range of Light Wilderness, The Mattson 2, Sandy's, The Tyde, Tomorrows Tulips, Simone Rubi, Birds of America, Gnagoriaceht, and Honeycrisp. Plus they promise special guests and "secret late night jam sessions." We are so in.
This may be the part we might like the most: Some food and drink will be available on-site. But while most music festivals don't allow outside food, this one encourages you to pack you lunch, dinner, wine, whatever you feel pairs well with a jamboree.
Also look for art installations and surf-film screenings. And if you get inspired by said films, Mollusk will be doling out surfboards to borrow or buy.
Lastly, someone called Farmer Dave is Jamboree's "Cultural Vibesman" and will be roaming around to make sure you're having fun. Which totally makes the ticket price of $190 (plus a $25 car fee) worth it. That includes camping—all things considered a pretty amazing deal. Get your boho garb and camping gear ready for a real hootenanny.
