I'm totally envious of girls who keep flawless lash extensions year-round. The surf life (and my tendency to procrastinate salon appointments) always holds me back from splurging on those semi-permanent beauties. Instead, I've become quite the connoisseur of falsies. And to look on the bright side, the options are endless: from subtle to dramatic, colorful to bedazzled. The trick is to trim them to suit your eyes (tap a friend or the gal at the make up counter) and use DUO eyelash adhesive that dries black (not clear). At the end of the day, some TLC will get you another few wears.

The Illamasqua False Eyelashes in 013 (1) and in 007 (2) are my current favorites for dramatic, "out-on-the-town" looks. Handmade and lightweight, the lashes are fine to wear all night long without irritation. Be sure to line eyes with a dark eyeliner both before and after lash application for the full, alluring effect.

MAC lashes were my first foray into falsies. The 7 Lash (1) is perfect for natural, everyday looks and is the style I keep stocked at all times. The 41 Lash (2) is also on the natural-end (trust me, they are!) but with an added element of lushness thanks to the crisscrossing hairs.

I look for Make Up For Ever eyelashes when I'm in the mood for feathers. The 142 Amy (1) is perfect for fun, themed parties. And the 115 Erin (2) is sexy and eye-catching. Fair warning: these are the hardest to apply precisely and not best for the beginning falsie enthusiast.

Shu Uemura false eyelashes answer the call for colorful lashes. The Rainbow-Sensation (1) and the Rainbow Feathers (2) look fabulous as accessories to colorful outfits (Mara Hoffman, anyone?). The biggest downer is that Shu Uemura is ecommerce-only in the States so a last-minute search for these babies in store will be in vain.
