Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
We've bid adieu to 2013 and we've newly rung in 2014. It's that time of year for reflection and hope for the future, so, like last year, we asked local fashion gurus—stylists, PR mavens, bloggers—to weigh in on what they loved in 2013, and what they're looking forward to for the coming year. We've covered favorite stores to shop in 2013, and here, they answer: "What was the top retail newcomer of 2013?"
Alexandra Bigley of SF Shop Girl: "Freda Salvador"
Melissa Davis, founder of Ruby Press and author of upcoming (spring 2014) book This is Oakland: A Guide to the City's Most Interesting Places: "There are a handful of newcomers in Oakland that I am really excited about: Mascot General Store, Elder & Pine and Book/Shop, to name a few!"
Natalie Goel of Like Fresh Laundry: No. 3 or The Future Perfect
Tammy Eckenswiller, stylist: "Sandro on Fillmore"
Lauren Podoll, cofounder of The Podolls: "The Podolls Flagship in Burlingame"
Erin Hiemstra of Apartment 34: "Love the new Podolls space!"
