Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Design Within Reach has shuttered its three San Francisco locations in Jackson Square (the first-ever DWR), Pacific Heights and Potrero Hill and moved all of its SF retail to a new space at 200 Kansas Street between 15th and 16th Streets in Potrero Hill. The 20,000-square-foot studio is one of its largest, and features an impressively large array of light pendant fixtures, a huge swatch wall, the "dining test lab" where customers can "test-drive" 70 models of dining chairs, 30 full-room vignettes, outdoor and café furniture, plus a private meeting room for clients and designers.
Later this month, look for the "DWR San Francisco Garden," a large installation of dozens of Planterworx planters landscaped with local plants. The new space is open Monday through Friday from 10am to 7pm, Saturday 10am to 6pm and Sunday 12 to 5pm; call 415.638.4700 with questions. Driving? Not to worry, the new location has a parking lot.
