Ever feel a little intimidated by crossing the Bay into the vast unknown that is Oakland? Let publicist Connie Wong's cheat sheet guide you. She specializes in the PR needs of fashion and design companies (Horne, Leah Singh, and May28th Watches, just to name a few) so you know her shopping picks are buzzworthy—but far from overexposed.

Head to Issues in Oakland to peruse the shop's vast variety of international and national magazines. You know it's a good one when a publicist counts it as one of her favorite newsstands. Be sure to pick up a copy of the stunning Aussie mag Frankie—Issues is the only place in the East Bay (and one of the handful in the Bay) to carry it. Then pop up north a mile and a half to Wong's other favorite shop Atomic Garden. Think you already know the store from its ecommerce shop? Think again. According to Wong, the in-store shopping experience is on another level thanks to the thoughtful displays and curated designs. And before hitting the road back west, stop in at Fournée Bakery and grab a croissant to go. It's a noteworthy adventure destined to rack up the Instagram hearts.
