eBay's fashion team might have the best job a fashion girl on a budget could dream of. These women get to sift through the eBay clothing treasure trove—while getting paid. At the same time, they have quite a daunting task on their hands: to make eBay's massive selection of merchandise—the world's largest online marketplace, in fact—accessible and covetable to style mavens across the globe. But as a quick scan of the Women's section makes clear, they're pretty much killing it.In October, they launched "Collections," groups of products hand-selected from eBay's more than 500 million items by the Internet's top trendsetters. That's not hyperbole: Pharrell Williams is one, and yes he has a helmet and a hat in his All Draped Up collection, though it is not the Vivian Westwood chapeau everyone's talking about. You'll also find selections from the likes of Solange Knowles, Andrea Linett, Todd Selby, and more. Making all this magic happen are the women you see before you; check out their personal work style and their tips for getting dressed in the gallery!
Heidi Ware, eBay's head of fashion editorial and creative, is wearing a Club Monaco tee, an Alexander Wang skirt, Barney's New York booties, her wedding rings, Lynn Bann ring, and black pearls from Sayulita, Mexico.
What is your work style?
"Boho minimalist"
What is your style advice?
"Pick a look that best suits your lifestyle and body type and don't worry so much about the trends.I recently returned over the knee boots that I LOVED but deep down knew they wouldn't be making it to the playground or office since I only liked them with cut offs."
Megan O'Brien, eBay's fashion editor, is wearing a Sandro tunic, Helmet Lang wax-coated jeans and Rick Owens metallic wedge booties.
What is your work style?
"My style transcends occasions (even work!) unless I'm going to an evening wedding! I'm a California bohemian at heart with a little edge. I live in jeans and T-shirts amped up by fitted blazers and leather jackets, studded and metallic boots, plush leather bags, bright friendship bracelets, beachy hair, and fun nail art. I strive for effortlessness and ease in my style. And I'm a huge fan of the one-piece wonder: the jumpsuit. I'm always looking for key investment pieces I'll wear for years to come, like my favorite Guissepe Zanotti silver booties. They were a total splurge but I live in them! I'm obsessed with denim (the more head to toe, the better), and I love collecting colorful bracelets everywhere I travel—leather, beaded, fabric, I love them all! One of the best parts of my job is combing through eBay to find pieces for our photo shoots. Recently I scored a pair of the studded Chloe Susanna boots in blush. Easily my best find EVER. I also landed a beautiful buttery Phillip Lim shoulder bag that I'm hoping to carry through fall. I seek inspiration through eBay's Collections and follow the curators who tag my favorite brands like Isabel Marant, Helmut Lang, Alexander Wang, and Guisseppe Zanotti."
What is your style advice?
"Celebrate what you love, what makes you unique, and don't be afraid to take risks. Sometimes it's fun to find a story you want to tell by the way you dress… But most of all, it's about being yourself and wearing things that make you feel comfortable and confident. Find your groove—and invest in the pieces that define it! The sky is the limit."
Gia Capetta, eBay's fashion coordinator, is wearing a Zara dress, vintage necklace and Sixtyseven booties.
What is your work style?
"Always comfortable, sometimes casual. My thoughts most mornings are: A chambray top and utility jacket will work with every outfit. I am obsessed with floral dresses, wearing them throughout the seasons sometimes with tights and always with booties. Also: boyfriend jeans with a basic tee is a look I will never be tired of, and this season I'm really loving sweaters paired with leggings and denim. I am endlessly trying to incorporate more colors into my wardrobe, because if I could get away with it, I would wear black on black every day."
What is your style advice?
"First, a girl can never own too many booties! And second, always wear what makes you feel good. Boycott trends that don’t compliment your look. Buy certain pieces in multiple colors if they are your favorites. Luckily for us, we are on eBay every day and get to watch our favorite brands and 3.0 collection curators inspiring the world to shop for personal must-have pieces."
Michelle Chaudoir, eBay's photo shoot producer, is wearing a Maison Scotch tee, Iris and Ink Jeans and Madewell shoes.
What is your work style?
"My work style has definitely evolved into something where I have a set of "basic go-to's" that can work with anything. I have two kids under the age of 5, so personal time in the morning (or anytime for that matter), is definitely a luxury. Therefore, getting dressed has to be quick and easy. I'm also on the road quite a bit, so I like simple, easy and able to pack in a carry-on because I hate checking bags! As the photo shoot producer at eBay, I handle booking all the talent for the various photo shoots. So, everything from photographers to stylists, models, hair and makeup artists, finding locations, studios, etc. There is certainly never a dull moment!"
What is your style advice?
"It's always important to feel comfortable. Also, people forget simple things can be amazing, too. Jeans, a loose cashmere sweater and a pair of ankle boots or really cool flats can go a long way if you wear it right and if you feel good about yourself!"
Sara Carbone, senior fashion editor at eBay, is wearing Barneys Co-op boots, Citizens of Humanity jeans, a J.Crew shirt, a Rebecca Minkoff necklace, a Patriamonroe bracelet and a Jennifer Zuener ring.
What is your work style?
"Silicon Valley is a pretty casual place—I wear a lot of jeans but always include something special, like funky jewelry or heels (yep, I wear heels at a .com!) I also love dresses and skirts but I always ground them with boots or booties when I’m at the office."
What is your style advice?
"Find what works for your body, create a silhouette uniform then add a bit of trend into the mix either in print, color or fabrication. Also: no logos ever!"
