Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
A fashion blogger's weekday #OOTD photos can happen in the 'hood on the way to work, but the weekend Instagram setting is critical. The environment needs to suggest that the subject is doing something cool; it can't look like she went out of her way just to find an awesome mural. (That, sadly, rules out the Califor'ya mural on 7th Street.) Luckily, there are two new —albeit temporary— installations in Hayes Valley, close enough to Azalea, Amour Vert, and Rand + Statler that everyone can pretend that they stumbled upon the spots during an afternoon of shopping.
The first is The Bold Italic's ginormous "Before I Die" wall —a local of version of Candy Chang's global community art project— at the corner of Octavia and Linden. The second is the colorful Apex mural at Octavia and Hayes. So go ahead bloggers: Grab your sunnies and your Rockstuds. Pull a lock of hair behind your ear while you glance down. This is your moment. And these are your new backdrops.
