People can turned to Los Gatos-based advice app Trusper for tips on everything from how to make a dress from a big t-shirt to how to build your own fire pit. And while founder Jack Jia envisioned a treasure trove of DIY household projects when he started the site, TechCrunch says that he quickly learned that more people were flocking to his wife's beauty tips than his own construction advice. So Jia did what any good Silicon Valley founder does: he pivoted.
The move paid off. Trusper has grown from 200 beta testers to more than 18 million users. This year, the tips-based social network raised $26 million in Series A and B funding. And today, Trusper announced that one of the most opinionated names in the fashion industry would be contributing her own two cents.
The editor is none other than Marie Claire Creative Director and Project Runway judge Nina Garcia. Nina is teaming up with Trusper to promote the launch of "love it tip it," a seven-week contest that encourages women to share tips and advice involving the hottest fashions, accessories, and beauty items. Each week of the contest, Nina and a panel of Trusper judges will narrow down the most popular tips for a weekly Hot Tips listing. Trusper will be giving out prizes to promote participation, including a Nancy Gonzalez clutch from Nina's personal collection. Want to win Nina's bag? You can check out the full rules for the contest here.
