Startups rarely achieve overnight success. For SF-based Wanelo, a social shopping platform, it required tenacity and commitment from CEO and founder Deena Varshavskaya to grow the site into a community of 11 million users. "When I went out to raise funding, it took more than 40 rejections to even close my very first seed round," Deena tells CBS.
Although other startups are also attempting to move the shopping mall concept online, CBS reports that Wanelo is "the fasting growing social network dedicated to shopping." That warrants big props to Deena, her vision, and her efforts. Unlike other founders, she's a fashionista herself. Her own Wanelo page is updated frequently with over 21,000 products. (A browse through her Deena's Closet collection is sure to add a few new items to your own, IRL.) So is this the best site and app for discovering new brands and stores? If the numbers do the talking, this one appears to be winning.
