Historic Berkeley Iceland Skate Rink Is Now a Sports Basement

The sixth location for Sports Basement is now open in Berkeley. The SF-based sporting goods chain converted the old Iceland skating rink into the new store, keeping the open floor plan and even pouring concrete in an ice hockey rink configuration. There's a ski lodge feel to the high, open beams, which should inspire the shopper to stock up on snow sports gear and apparel. Tentative weather reports call for a wet winter so it's best to prepare. And remember, the store's Grand Snowpening event is tomorrow from 9am to 8pm so stop in for a chance to score free stuff.
