Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Zappos isn't the first company to open a tech lab in SF. Target, American Eagle, and Walmart (just to name a few) are all here with labs of their own. But the Zappos Labs focus on consumer-facing, digital products means the e-retailer is innovating the Zappos shopping experience with new ways to discover products. Glance is one of those apps. A fashion inspiration tool powered by Zappos stylists, the platform curates theme-specific pieces from Zappos and groups them into collections based on trends and seasonal events. Yes, it's another shoppable Pinterest. But the stylists pull interesting outfits at fair price points. Glance is an especially handy tool for VIP-status Zappos users and their free one-day deliveries.
"Holiday fashion is pretty straight forward this year," Zappos stylist Kandis Yoakum tells us. "Classic pieces—with the recent trend to add metallics and shimmer to any look—are always a favorite this time of year." To give it a try, browse through this Holiday Sparkle collection on Glance to add a little sparkle to your closet staples. If nothing catches your fancy, but you like the general concept and layout of the platform, wait until Saturday when the site releases its Thanksgiving-specific collection. Our first look at the curated selection revealed an excellent sweater selection to hide those post-dinner food-baby bellies.
