Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Your small window of opportunity to hit the slopes is quickly closing, but if you missed it, worry not. The sunny days ahead call for trading in the snowboard for a surfboard. Of course, even if the air is warm, our local waters will remain frigid for, well, forever (our lifetimes, anyway). So before wading into the deep blue waters, head into Nor Cal Surf Shop, just a few steps away from Pacifica's Linda Mar breakers—which mean you don't need a car that can accommodate surfing paraphernalia. The shop rents out surfboards ($19), wetsuits ($16.50), stand up paddle boards ($60), and bodyboards ($11) in half-day and full-day increments. Plus they offer lessons, and the surf instruction is solid. Get a jumpstart on summer and hone your skills now—before school lets out and all hell breaks loose in the water.
