The idea of Amazon's drone deliveries sounded farfetched, but there's a local startup that may beat the retail giant to the punch. QuiQui (pronounced kwi-key) is launching its drone delivery service by early July. The pilot program will deliver pharmacy items to customers in the Mission for a surcharge of only $1. QuiQui chose the Mission because it's a "relatively flat landscape," which makes it easier for the drones to fly a direct route. Delivering prescriptions are in the works, but don't expect the drones to work as the middleman for certain drugs, including marijuana:
To be clear, we're not going to be delivering marijuana. Even the medical kind. That was a misprint.— QuiQuiSF (@quiquiSF) March 14, 2014
