Winter is finally making an appearance in the Golden State, and this last storm has added almost four feet of the fresh stuff to the slopes around Lake Tahoe. If you haven't taken your skis or snowboards out of storage since last season, it's time for a little wax and edge job before you ride. Lombardi Sports offers a basic tune and stone grind for $50. It's my trusted, local option to check the chore off the list and to altogether avoid the overcrowded ski lodge shops. And if you're unsure about taking the ownership plunge, the rental packages are not only well priced but also offer brands and models rarely seen in the rental market (i.e. LibTech demos). Bonus: all winter items are currently 25-50%. So load up and head out stat—it just may be one of the shortest seasons yet.
