"I chose the location because I love the blend of neighborhoods that the shop lays smack in between—Alamo Square, Western Addition, Hayes Valley, Lower Haight and NoPa," salon-gallery owner David Karvasales tells Hoodline. "It possesses many characters of each hood which I find the perfect fit for our group." The David James Salon + Gallery is an artistic space that allows for haircuts and hairstyling in the main room, and art shows in a separate gallery room, featuring work by the hairstylists and their friends. Karvasales first opened the concept in San Rafael and expanded into the new Fillmore location this month. Although the combo may sound quirky, it makes total sense: Hair stylists are artists. And now you can wear their art and hang it, too.
