Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
One of our sleuthing readers spotted a listing for an upcoming Uniqlo at 1259 S. Main Street in Walnut Creek, where a major construction project is underway to improve the town's shopping district. Forty shops have been forced to temporarily close for the demolition of 200,000 square feet of retail space, which will be rebuilt with an added 300,000 square feet plus more parking.
The brand has opened five stores in the Bay Area over the last couple of years, two of which opened earlier this month in Concord and at the Serramonte Center in Daly City. Check out our interview with Uniqlo's U.S. head honcho to find out why the brand loves the bay area. Looks like we'll be in for another drumming celebration sometime later this year!
