No Need to Cross the Bridge, Umami Mart Is Now in SF

Don't call it a pop-up: Umami Mart isn't leaving SF—at least, for the rest of the year. The Oakland-based, Japanese kitchen and barware store set up temporary shop in The Perish Trust last November. When it came to an end (as most pop-ups do), the local crowd mourned the loss of its easy access to matcha Kit Kats and gold-plated jiggers. But there will be no more tears because Umami Mart is back on SF soil with the keys to The Perish Trust through to the end of 2014 (and hopefully beyond).

Celebrate the union between city and store next Thursday, April 10, from 6 to 9pm for a blowout launch party. There will be dancing to DJ Spaziale's 70's beats and Japanese and American eats from Casa de Kei and 4505 Burgers & BBQ. And if you can't make it then, stop in at the store from 12 to 7pm on weekdays and 11am to 5pm on weekends (closed on Tuesdays). The more foot traffic now means less bridge traffic later.
