President Barack Obama lands in Silicon Valley today. First on his itinerary are two, high-dollar fundraisers for the DNC. But tomorrow, his presence will be on a more public level with an appearance at the Walmart in Mountain View to speak about the importance of energy efficiency. Walmart is working toward a goal of powering its stores by 100 percent renewable energy sources, the Mercury reports.

But many commentators and labor groups are confused by Obama's decision to single out the retail giant. "It doesn't fit inside the box when [President Obama talks] about income equality all week, and then [does] an event at Walmart," Steven Maviglio, a veteran Democratic political consultant, tells the Chronicle. Neither Walmart nor the White House have elaborated on details just yet, but Walmart, according to a spokesperson, is "very excited."
