When Alternative Apparel arrived in Hayes Valley at the end of last year, we knew it would bring socially responsible and incredibly comfortable clothes once the doors opened. But an added bonus has been the store's interest and support of the neighborhood. First, it launched Alternative Market, a weekly Saturday event that brings a different food vendor into the store, and now it's starting a community engagement program that lends out its basement space to non-profit organizations. Neighbor Hayes Valley Bakeworks is also in on the do-gooder fun by providing the meetings' sustenance in the form of Four Barrel coffee and pastries. To sign up, see the Liquidspace form here to check for availability and to finalize your booking.
