Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Sample sales can be overwhelming, but the Goorin Bros. sale that started in SoMa on Thursday is a refreshingly civilized affair. Dapper staffers answered customers' questions on the floor, shoppers offered each other opinions on prospective purchases, and no one seemed to doubt that two small dogs shopping with their owner would live to tell the tale.
The sale continues through Saturday, June 28, at the company's SoMa headquarters (1269 Howard Street), and employees assure us that stock will be replenished daily. When we stopped in, we saw oodles of straw options, (floppy, fedora, panama, you name it), as well as the jaunty woven styles favored by hipster bartenders. So skip the flight or fight panic, and head over to Howard Street for a new chapeau. Straw hats may seem frivolous given the June gloom, but one of the woven or leather options from winter will help keep you warm on a chilly summer evening.
