We mentioned it in passing yesterday, but obviously a new Balenciaga store in the Bay Area deserves a proper shout out. So without further ado: today, the first Northern California Balenciaga boutique opens at the Valley Fair shopping center in Santa Clara.
The 1,680-square-foot retail space is the third location to feature artistic director Alexander Wang's new design concept, which he created in collaboration with designer Ryan Korban and was first debuted in November 2013 at the New York flagship in SoHo. Balenciaga corporate describes it thusly:
The boutique design pays homage to the artistic legacy established by Cristóbal Balenciaga at the original couture salon in Paris at 10 Ave. George V. The Valley Fair boutique contrasts sensual and sleek materials such as dark green "Verde Rameggiato" Italian marble, pale limestone, forest green suede and mirrored chrome to achieve a luxurious result. Hand-hammered limestone pedestals lend a tactile quality in contrast to the graphic lines of the boutique. Shelves lined in a newly-developed "Cracked Resin" material give a glistening, mineral effect. Signature custom-made chairs combine chrome and marble, symbolizing the innovative spirit of BALENCIAGA.
The Valley Fair store will sell women's clothing plus a complete collection of handbags and small leather goods, shoes, jewelry, sunglasses and fragrance. The boutique will also carry men's shoes and bags but sorry guys, no men's clothing.
It's the brand's 10th boutique in the U.S., with other stores in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Honolulu, Miami, Costa Mesa, and Las Vegas.
