The collaboration between local accessories brand Timbuk2 and local competitive cycling group Mission Cycling Club has resulted in the award-winning Raider Pack ($79). It's a compact and lightweight urban commuter backpack that weighs less than a pound. And it was inspired by the cycling club's Tuesday and Thursday morning rides to the top of the Marin Headlands. "Sleek, stylish and lightweight, the Raider Pack is amazing on and off the bike, and embodies the functionality and versatility synonymous with Timbuk2," Greg Bass, Timbuk2 Director of Product and Design, tells us.
The Industrial Designers Society of America clearly agrees—it recently awarded the bag with a coveted International Design Excellence Award. Specifically, the Raider Pack earned a Silver Award in the Personal Accessories category. That's quite an accomplishment considering there were nearly 2,000 entries and just 27 Gold, 58 Silver and 91 Bronze IDEA winners. "IDSA is the voice of the industrial design profession, and to receive a Silver Award amidst competition of this caliber is an enormous honor," Bass adds. Timbuk2 and Mission Cycling Club will be honored along with the other winners at the annual IDSA conference in Austin next month.
