It was nearly the end for Amelia's Antics in Millbrae. The beloved consignment store, that opened five years ago, closed up shop last month. Business was down as a direct result of Kohl's closing at the nearby Millbrae Square Shopping Center, the Daily Journal reports. But a month later, store owner Karen Steffey has reopened her store's doors thanks to the community's support. "Everybody was really brilliant and that was when I decided to stick around," Steffey tells the Daily Journal.
But for business to increase at Amelia's Antics, Steffey believes that the city of Millbrae needs to attract a diverse range of retail businesses to make the area a shopping destination. "We need to attract more businesses and hopefully diversify businesses," Mayor Wayne Lee says in agreement to Steffey. "It depends on the local businesses taking control of the situation." Until then, be sure to step into Steffey's store between 10am and 5pm on Mondays through Saturdays to find an extensive selection of designer shoes, dresses, and jewelry—like this signature Tiffany's heart necklace.
