Simon Ungless —the long-time director of Academy of Art University's fashion school— just got a promotion. Ungless will replace Gladys Perint Palmer as Executive Director of the school, while Palmer will become Executive Vice President of Artistic Development, according to SFGate.
A Central Saint Martins graduate, the Chronicle previously described Ungless at AAU's "fashion savior" for taking the school's design program "from a blip on the outer orbits of obscurity to the center of the fashion world's radar." He's also the man to thank for Sarah Burton's brilliant tenure Alexander McQueen. (Ungless was friends with Lee McQueen, and introduced Burton, his former student, to the late designer, New York Magazine reports.) We're hoping that the celebrated designer and educator —who hilariously suggested that London and New York get over themselves— stays in San Francisco for many years to come.
