Cost Plus World Market is trying its hand at crowdfunding. Each month, the home decor brand is presenting unique, made-to-order items that are available for pre-order. At the end of the time allowed to fund the products, only the ones that have secured enough buyers go into production. The current batch of limited-edition items made by artisans around the world is coming against the wire—the sale period ends tomorrow at 1pm. A couple items have sold out, but the majority are still in search of buyers—like this hand-painted Sundara Cabinet ($649) that needs just 32 more orders to be produced. The whole concept may sound like a setup for shopping heartbreak, but a little risk always makes the hunt more fun.
