It's a common story lately: a rent hike is forcing an independent retailer to close after many years in the city. In this scenario, Therapy Home, the home goods branch of the Therapy apparel boutique, will shutter its 541 Valencia Street location at the end of the month when the rent rises 84 percent from $5,700 to $10,500. (The clothing location next door will stay open.) Throughout the month, everything in stock is at least 20 percent off. But don't wait to go with expectations of a clearance: Whatever doesn't sell will make the move to the store's new location in Alameda, set to open in September.
