If you don't like putting chemical weirdness on your face, there's a growing coterie of cosmetics-makers who specialize in all-natural products. The shades are typically delicate and lovely. But if that's not your style? If you want sparkles and glitter and dra-ma? Then you may have trouble finding the perfect lip color or eyeshadow.
That's the problem that Sebastapol resident Layla Musselwhite faced when she set out to buy eco-conscious stage makeup. She thought natural products were boring, and she didn't want to cover her face with chemicals she couldn't pronounce. So Layla decided to make her own makeup for "glam girls."
After "mad tinkering" with potions, oils, and pigments, Savage Jenny was born. Layla's first success was her Drama Queen sparkly lipgloss, but she's since expanded her line to include eye shadow ($28 for three shades) and cheek color ($25-$29) as well as twelve lip colors ($18 each). Now she's selling Savage Jenny in certain Bay Area Whole Foods locations and online. Not a bad result for a belly dancer looking for metallic makeup.
