MONTEREY— The First City Festival powers up in Monterey this weekend. Make the trip down the coast to rock out to Phantogram and Tokyo Police Club or household favorites like The National and Beck. No car? No problem. There are shuttles running to the festival from both San Francisco and San Jose. The festival is Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24. Tickets, starting at $79.75, are available here. [First City Festival]

UPPER HAIGHT— Milk Bar will be hosting A Very Vouched Birthday Saturday, August 23, at 6 p.m. to celebrate Vouched Books' first year in San Francisco. Admission is free, but proceeds from sales will benefit 826 Valencia. Every $5 you spend at the birthday party (on Vouched or pirate swag) gets you an raffle ticket for a prize. A portion of drink and book sales (all pirate mercy sales) will support community programs at 826 Valencia. [Hoodline]

SOMA— If the onslaught of crop tops and Docs hadn't already tipped you off, the 90s are back. Relive the musical glory of the decade next Wednesday, August 27 at Slim's with the Presidents of the United States of America. Tickets are $26 (plus fees) and available here. For the love of all things 90s, we pray that they play Lump. [Slim's]
