InStyle Style Director Melissa Rubini gave the mag a look into what she packed for a recent trip to Big Sur, and her daytime outfits are everything you would expect for a chic, relaxed vacay on the California Coast. From a 3.1 Phillip Lim shift to a tunic from The Row, we loved Melissa's picks. There was just one thing missing: Jackets.

Temperatures in Big Sur dip into the 40s and 50s at night —even during the summer— so Melissa was probably chilly without a topper. She made an effort to throw Jil Sander and Vince sweaters in the mix, but the loose-knit styles she packed don't offer much in the way of warmth. If you're making the magical drive down the coast for Labor Day, Melissa's looks are a fantastic starting point for your own packing list; just don't forget the layers.
